Since the 1940s, traditional archery holds a special place in the hearts of the Mongols and this year 2020 marks the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the Mongolian Traditional Archery Federation.
The Mongolian Traditional Archery Federation has 36 affiliates, 9 teams and 5 clubs registered as of today. There are 20 to 23 competitions held annually some of which are Opening Archery, State Archery, National Team Championship Archery, National Grand Prix Archery, Senior State Archery, Junior Archery Championship, Archery Festival, The Ogre Archery, Named Archery.
In 21 provinces of the country, there are more than 2000 archers associated with the Federation, with a total more than 10000 participants in their state of the art competitions.
The Government of Mongolia has been very keen for the development of its national archery. In 1959, the title of Sports Degree was first awarded. In 2002 the Presidential Decree No 133 was issued on National Archery Development. In 2003, the National Great Festival of Law was passed. And, Mongolian National Archery was recognized as an Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO on 16th November 2010. As Mongolia continues to evolve in its sports development, it has recognized the importance of connecting modern sporting achievements with traditional practices.
