The Union of African Traditional Sports and Games (UATSG) and its partners with the support of the Government of Sierra Leone will be hosting the 1st Regional Workshop on validating a framework for the standardization and documentation of African Traditional Sports and Games from 27 to 28 November 2023 at the prestigious The View Hotel in Freetown, Sierra Leone.

The objective of the Workshop is to promote integration of traditional sports and games from various regions in the continent into school curriculums and community as a tool for enhancing cultural celebration and maintenance along with maximizing the participation of African people in traditional sports and games. 

Representatives from various governments in the continent will be participating in this Workshop along with delegations of international organizations and international sports federations. As per the tentative program provided, the Workshop will be held for two days with presentations, seminars and discussions on seminal topics related to the safeguarding and promotion of traditional sports and games in Africa.

According to the Secretary General for UATSG Mr Chief Michael Shamsu Mustapha, this Workshop will provide to be a realization of a key success for Africa as Africa moves to ensure at least one African traditional sport should be standardized and included in the World Traditional Games by 2030. He also thanked the Government of Sierra Leone for leading Africa in this project and the International Council of Traditional Sports and Games for its patronage.
