"Traditional Sports and Games constitute an essential part in the identity of a society. The European Commission funds projects supporting traditional sports and games every year." said Her Excellency Mariya Gabriel, European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth in her official Message on the International Day of Traditional Sports and Games being celebrated on 14 August 2022.
On the occasion of the International Day for Traditional Sports and Games, Her Excellency Mariya Gabriel said, "It is a great pleasure to celebrate the International Day of Traditional Sport and Games today. Traditional Sports and Games constitute an essential part in the identity of a society." She further said that The European Commission funds projects supporting traditional sport and games every year. These projects create occasions to continue to transmit this immense cultural heritage to new generations, while promoting an active and healthy lifestyle for all."
The International Council of Traditional Sports and Games (ICTSG) has been working with many stakeholders to fulfill its mission of the development of traditional sports and games (TSG) globally. The mutual cooperation between the Council and the European Commission in the future will lead to the promotion of traditional and indigenous sports not only in Europe but elsewhere.
