Kyrgyz Republic’s Role in ICTSG Formation and Promotion of Traditional Sports Overview The Kyrgyz Republic, a proud Central Asian nation steeped in nomadic heritage, has long celebrated its rich tapestry of traditional sports and games. On August 13–14, 2018, the country was officially represented at the historic 4th Collective Consultation Meeting on Traditional Sports and Games in Istanbul, Turkey. Delegates included Mr. Kanat Amankulov and Mr. Elis Alizhan, with the official document signed by Mr. Amankulov in his capacity as Minister of Sports. This momentous gathering, hosted at Sheraton Grand Istanbul Ataşehir and organized by the UNESCO Ad-Hoc Advisory Committee on TSG, laid the groundwork for the formation of the International Council of Traditional Sports and Games (ICTSG), with Kyrgyzstan playing a foundational role. Geographic and Cultural Importance Nestled in the heart of Central Asia and bordered by mountains and lakes, the Kyrgyz Republic is geographically positioned at the crossroads of the ancient Silk Road. This diverse terrain has helped preserve traditional sports, which remain integral to Kyrgyz identity, culture, and seasonal festivals. The land itself has shaped horseback sports and endurance-based activities that have been passed down through centuries. Traditional and Indigenous Sports of Kyrgyz Republic
