1999 -- MINEPS III: The First International Declaration
The modern global TSG movement begins at MINEPS III in Punta del Este, Uruguay. The conference's final declaration calls on governments to support the preservation and promotion of traditional sports and games as intangible cultural heritage -- the first time the international sports governance community formally recognizes TSG as a heritage concern.
2006 -- First Collective Consultation on TSG, Paris
UNESCO convenes the First Collective Consultation at its Headquarters in Paris -- the first gathering of an international community of traditional sports organizations, governments, and civil society under a unified framework.
2009 -- Second Collective Consultation, Tehran
The Second Collective Consultation in Tehran deepens international consensus around the need for a formal global TSG organization. Regional consultations are initiated across Africa, Asia, and Europe.
2010 -- UNESCO Inscriptions Landmark Year
Mongolia's Naadam festival and Turkey's Yagli Gures are inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage, demonstrating the system's capacity to recognize traditional sports at the highest international level.
2015 -- UNESCO 2030 Agenda Alignment

2017 -- Third Collective Consultation, Paris
The Third Collective Consultation produces the formal adoption of the name "International Council of Traditional Sports and Games" and the election of an Ad Hoc Advisory Committee, with Khalil Ahmed Khan elected as Chairman.
2018 -- ICTSG Founded in Istanbul
The Fourth Collective Consultation in Istanbul formally establishes ICTSG. Over 82 participants from more than 40 countries ratify the founding statutes, elect the first governing leadership, and formally establish the organization. Khalil Ahmed Khan is elected as first President. Joel Bouzou joins as Ambassador-at-Large.
2019 -- International Partnerships
ICTSG signs an MOU with the Mongolian Traditional Sports and Games Council. Delegations visit Korea and the UAE. Pencak Silat receives UNESCO ICH inscription -- a landmark for Asian traditional sports.
2020 -- ATSGC Established
The African Traditional Sports and Games Council (ATSGC) is established as ICTSG's continental body for Africa. An MOU is signed with North Macedonia. COVID-19 accelerates digital documentation and virtual engagement.
2021 -- African Ministerial Roundtable
A landmark Ministerial Roundtable on African Traditional Sports and Games brings together ministers from over 12 African nations. The World Martial and Vigorous Culture Festival (WMVC) is organized.
2022 -- International TSG Day Declared: August 14
The formal declaration of August 14 as the annual International Day of Traditional Sports and Games. TSG Day 2022 generates messages of support from European Commissioners, heads of state, ministers, and ambassadors worldwide.
2023 -- African Photo Contest, Mongolia Junior Program
The African Photo and Video Contest generates global attention for African TSG traditions. Mongolia's junior archery program emerges as a model for youth engagement. ICTSG establishes its first formal National Chapter in Japan.
