The SICA Council of Ministers 2019 meeting took place on April 4, 2019, in Guatemala under the auspices of the Central American Educational and Cultural Coordination (CECC/SICA). The meeting was chaired by Guatemala's Minister of Culture and Sports, Mr. Elder Suchite, alongside Mr. Carlos Staff, Secretary General of CECC/SICA. Cultural ministers from eight Central American countries attended, including representatives from Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, and the Dominican Republic. President of the ICTSG and Chairman of UNESCO's Advisory Committee on Traditional Sports and Games, Mr. Khalil Ahmed Khan, addressed the council through a video message. In his address, Mr. Khan invited the Central American nations to join the UNESCO TSG Group of Friends by signing the Letter of Commitment and emphasized the critical role of preserving and developing traditional and indigenous sports in regions such as Central America. Mr. Khan also acknowledged the efforts made by UNESCO and its Advisory Committee in safeguarding and promoting traditional sports globally. He further nominated Mr. Luis Bruzon Delgado, Culture Coordinator of SICA, as the Regional Coordinator for Traditional Sports in Central America. Following the meeting, the governments of Guatemala and Belize officially signed the Letter of Commitment, joining the UNESCO TSG Group of Friends, marking a significant step toward the global preservation of traditional sports.
