The African Traditional Sports and Games Council (ATSGC) has officially designated Namibia as the host for the inaugural African Traditional Sports and Games championship -a historic milestone for the continent's sporting and cultural heritage.

Namibia was selected for its strong commitment to preserving indigenous games, its growing sports infrastructure, and its geographic centrality within the Southern African region. The event will bring together participants from across the African continent to compete in and demonstrate traditional sports unique to their cultures.

Dr. Gisela from Namibia presented "Echoes of the Past" at TSG Day 2025 -a report highlighting the preservation of traditional games in the Otjombinde Constituency of the Omaheke Region. Her presentation emphasized the role of community elders in passing down indigenous knowledge to younger generations, making Namibia a fitting host.

The ATSGC has been working in coordination with ICTSG to develop a continental framework for TSG governance, capacity-building, and championship organization. This 2026 championship is expected to feature sports including African wrestling, stick fighting, traditional dance-sport, and various regional games representing each of Africa's five sub-regions.

ICTSG has expressed its full support and will provide institutional guidance, Online Encyclopedia documentation resources, and international visibility support throughout the build-up and execution of the games.
