ATSGC Joins ICTSG to Amplify TSG Day 2025 Across Africa By: Azhar Masood Khan & Hamna Awan The African Traditional Sports and Games Confederation (ATSGC) has joined as a symbolic friend and supporter of the International Council of Traditional Sports and Games (ICTSG) in celebrating TSG Day 2025. This collaboration is a non-binding show of solidarity—an opportunity to collectively spotlight African heritage sports and their value in community, education, and cultural identity. A Pan-African Celebration of Heritage As ICTSG’s continental partner for Africa, ATSGC mobilizes communities to celebrate, protect, and promote indigenous sports. Their involvement in TSG Day 2025 is designed to connect local traditions to the global stage—through school activities, cultural performances, and grassroots tournaments, ensuring that both rural and urban communities share in the celebration. Key Areas of Engagement

Pan-African Reach: Coordinated events in capitals, villages, and schools across multiple African nations. Capacity Building: Workshops for coaches, educators, and youth leaders to sustain heritage games locally. Cultural Showcases: Indigenous sports tournaments, storytelling sessions, and traditional dance competitions. Momentum for Namibia 2026: Building public and stakeholder interest in the African TSG Multi-Event scheduled for August 2026. Women in TSG: Leadership and visibility opportunities for female athletes, coaches, and cultural historians.

Shared Values & Global Alignment This collaboration reflects a commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, including Quality Education, Good Health, Gender Equality, and Reduced Inequalities. It highlights the role of traditional sports as tools for unity, inclusion, and sustainable development—offering low-cost, culturally relevant opportunities for communities to connect. Safeguarding Cultural Integrity It is important to note that ATSGC’s role in TSG Day 2025 is purely symbolic and community-driven. There is no operational, financial, or contractual commitment between ATSGC and ICTSG beyond this celebration. The partnership exists to amplify awareness and encourage communities to engage with their heritage in meaningful ways. TSG Day 2025 Across Africa From indigenous wrestling in West Africa to traditional ball games in East Africa, the day will feature a rich variety of cultural expressions. Interactive exhibitions, youth-led competitions, and heritage storytelling panels will connect elders and young people, ensuring traditions are passed forward with pride. Join the Movement Membership in ICTSG is open to individuals, educators, institutions, and cultural leaders who wish to contribute to the preservation and promotion of heritage sports. Whether through hosting local events, sharing cultural stories, or creating digital adaptations, members become part of a global network dedicated to safeguarding intangible heritage.
