The Spirit of Tradition: Celebrating the World’s Timeless Games Author: M.Shahid- Chairman ICTSG’s Research & Publication Commission Introduction: Where Excellence Wears Heritage Around fires, in open fields, or etched in the dust of village courtyards—this is where traditional games have lived for centuries. Unlike modern or Olympic sports, these games were not created to win medals or break records, but to pass on wisdom, unify communities, and cultivate character. Today, as the International Council of Traditional Sports and Games (ICTSG) rallies the world for the upcoming World Traditional Games, we honor these unique disciplines—not as rivals to modern sport, but as pillars of cultural excellence in their own right.

The World Traditional Games will not be a replica of the Olympics—but a celebration of what it means to compete with values, with roots, and with community. These games will:
Honor cultural diversity as strength. Celebrate inclusivity. Promote intergenerational learning. Showcase sustainability.
Traditional games do not need to evolve into commercial spectacles to matter. They need only to be seen, supported, and shared. Through the upcoming World Traditional Games, ICTSG is lighting the torch of global cultural unity—not through medals, but through memory, meaning, and mutual respect. Let us remember: when a child plays a traditional game, a culture breathes again. When the world gathers to celebrate them, humanity remembers what it truly means to win.
